Banning, Riverside County
Banning is named for Phineas Banning, whose stagecoaches carried freight through the San Gorgonio Pass in the 1860s. The town incorporated in 1913 and marks its origins each fall with Stagecoach Days, a rodeo and parade. It sits between Mount San Gorgonio and Mount San Jacinto, and the Gilman Ranch, an old stage stop on the north side, is kept as a county historic park.
